William Edward Mayles, Jr.

William Edward Mayles Jr, 83, of Westernport passed away on October 16, 2024, surrounded by family. 

Born October 14, 1941, he was the son of the late William and Evelyn (Ahern) Mayles. He was also preceded in death by his daughter Pam Mayles, and his second wife Geraldine Mayles.

Bill was a graduate of Bruce High School class of 1959. He was a member of the Potomac Fire Company No.2 for more than 60 years. He volunteered his time running fire calls, and driving the fire trucks. His life of service also included holding the positions of Westernport Water and Police Commissioner. Bill retired from the Westvaco paper mill in 2011, where he worked as a mulit-craft mechanic for more than 40 years. Bill enjoyed his summers at Deep Creek Lake with friends and family, where he water skied and boated his entire life. Hunting and fishing were a large part of his younger years.

He is survived by his children, Billy (Mary Beth), Bobby (Marla) and Connie Diamond (Doug); six grandchildren JR (Stephanie), Jason (Hannah), Matt (Mikayla), Sidney Amoroso, Michael Mayles, and Paytan Diamond; great grandchildren, Huxlee and Mallory, with two arriving in the Spring. His siblings included Carmaleda Winfield, Cheryl (Bob) Creighton, and Clay; his brother and sister- in- law Leo and Debbie Nesmith. He is also survived by his special friend Margie Smiley.

Friends and family are welcome to gather at the Boal Funeral Home in Westernport MD on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 from 1pm to 5 p.m.

The men and women of the Potomac Fire Company No.2 will conduct a fireman service at approximately 4:45 p.m. 

A funeral service will follow the gathering at 5:00 p.m. with Deacon Harold Bradley officiating. 

The family would like to thank the staff of Moran Manor and Rehabilitation Center for the care Bill received during his extended stay.
