William Henry Bowley, 86, of Romney, passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at Heartland of Keyser Nursing Home.
Born April 6, 1925 in Paw Paw, he was the son of the late Dory Hetzel and Veronica (Yakland) Bowley. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty (Keller) Bowley in 2004, and a son William Michael Bowley.
Mr. Bowley was a United States Naval Veteran, having served during World War II. He retired after 32 years of service with the US Naval Ordnance Laboratory, Silver Spring, MD. He was Catholic by faith and in his earlier years was the sexton at St. Peters Catholic Church, Westernport, MD, a driver for Trenum’s Taxi, Westernport, MD, and a former employee of the B & O Railroad, Keyser.
He leaves behind five sons, Edward Bowley of Laurel, MD, Daniel Bowley of Bowie, MD, Larry Bowley of South Carolina, William Bowley of York, PA, Mark Bowley of Laurel, MD, one brother, Fred Bowley of Florida, two sisters, Margaret McPhaul of Waldorf, MD, and Frances Cofske of Chestertown, MD. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, 111 Church St, Westernport, MD, on Monday, April 9, 2012 from 7 to 9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peters Catholic, 127 Church St, Westernport, MD on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at 10:00 AM, with Monsignor Paul Byrnes as celebrant.
