Wanda Sue Ahern, 74, of Maryland Highway, Swanton went to be with the Lord peacefully on Friday, April 26, 2024 at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, WV.
Born January 21, 1950 in Woodbine, MD, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth “Libby” Robbins.
Mrs. Ahern was a member of the Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Glenelg High School. She worked at the Department of Energy in Gaithersburg; owner and operator of The Bever Flat Country Store in Swanton; and the Department of Juvenile Services, Swanton, where she retired and dearly loved helping to turn the young boy’s lives around at the Backbone Mountain Youth Center.
She enjoyed cruising around in the ’66 Chevelle going to car shows with friends and the love of her life, her late husband, Bruce Rory Ahern. Sue was a selfless person and a true giver. Her children and grandchildren were her whole world. She would move heaven and earth for them, as well as anyone in her family. Anyone she crossed paths with knew of her giving heart.
Sue is survived by her son, Eric B. Ahern and the love of his life, Angie Day; along with two grandchildren that meant the world to her, grandson Devin Ahern and granddaughter Willow Ahern. She is also survived by a sister, Pat Mathias; brother, Larry Welsh (Carrole); along with many nieces, nephews, God children and friends.
Along with her parents Charles and Libby Robbins, Sue was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bruce Ahern; and brothers, Sonny Barth and Ronald “John” Robbins.
A Celebration of Life service will take place at a later date.
In lieu of sending flowers, to honor Sue, the family kindly request that memorial contributions be directed to the Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church, 8 Virts Road, Swanton, MD 21561.
