Vernon Bittinger, 73 of Cumberland, raised in Mill Run, Westernport passed away on June 29, 2023 at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown.
Born October 22, 1949 in Westernport, he was the son of the late Paul and Charlotte (Jones) Bittinger. He was also preceded in death by his infant children, Erica Corrine and Japeth Benjamin; his brother, Paul Bittinger; and nephew, Paul Bittinger, Jr.
Vernon enjoyed browsing at flea markets and was a collector of antiques and glassware. He was previously a truck driver and at one point owned his own trucks. Most recently he was a general maintenance construction contractor.
Vernon always made himself available to help others. He was a people person and loved his family. He was a true giver with a big heart, he will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Vernon attended God’s House of Worship in Keyser, WV. He accepted the Lord as his Savior and is now at rest at his eternal home.
Vernon is survived by his siblings, Joann O’Brien and husband David of Cumberland, Mary Ann Bobo and husband John of Keyser, Timothy Bittinger and wife Carol of Westernport, and David Bittinger and wife Sherry of Rawlings. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Rita “Missy” Bittinger of Cresaptown; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
At Vernon’s request, his body was donated to the WVU Human Gift Registry.
Family and friends are welcome to gather and share memories of Vernon at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport on Saturday, July 8th from 12 to 2 p.m.
A memorial service will immediately follow the visitation at 2:00 p.m. with his brother, Pastor Timothy Bittinger officiating.
