Thurman Gladstone Kitzmiller, 83, of Bartlett St., Barton, passed away Thursday, December 27, 2012 at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland.
Born February 20, 1929 in Mt. Storm, WV, he was the son of the late Stephen and Irene (Miller) Kitzmiller. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Brant Kitzmiller.
Mr. Kitzmiller was a United States Army Veteran, having served during World War II, as a tank destroyer crewman. He received the World War II Victory Medal. He was retired from Upper Potomac River Commission, having been assistant operator and a truck driver. Mr. Kitzmiller was a member of the Barton United Methodist Church, a member of Barton American Legion #189, and a member of Queens Point V.F.W. #6775. He was a faithful union member, holding memberships in the Teamsters Local #453, Operating Engineers Local #37, and the Textile Union #1874, Celanese. He was very patriotic and flew the American Flag always. He was also a Nascar fan and was a staunch democrat.
He leaves behind his wife, Estella Mae (Porter) Kitzmiller, two sons, Darrell Kitzmiller of Barton, Lewis Kitzmiller and wife Beverly of New Creek, WV, two daughters, Cheryl Muir and husband Jim of Virginia Beach, VA, Peggy Kitzmiller of Sterling, VA, one brother, Dale Kitzmiller of Baltimore, two sisters, Donna Rush of Rawlings, and Judy Kitzmiller of Keyser, WV. He is also survived by six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He loved them all dearly.
Friends and family will be received at the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton, on Friday from 6 to 9 PM. The Barton American Legion will hold a memorial service at the funeral home on Friday at 7:00 PM.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Boal Chapel on Saturday at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Carl Cowan officiating.
Interment will be in Mt. View Cemetery, Moscow Mills.
