Theodore Robert “Peanie” Combs, 92, of 83 ½ Ashfield St, Piedmont, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2012 at Heartland of Keyser Nursing Home.

Born September 12, 1919 in Piedmont, he was the son of the late Howard C. Combs Sr. and the late Emma C. Combs.  He was also preceded in death by his long time companion, Geraldine Magruder, extended family members, Gary and Robbie Shingler, a sister, Alice Riley, and two brothers, Howard and Paul Combs.

Mr. Combs was a United States Army Veteran, having served during World War II.  He retired from the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier.  He was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church, Westernport, MD.  Mr. Combs was a lifetime member of Kelly Mansfield Post #52 American Legion, Piedmont, a lifetime member of Tri-Towns Fire Company #1 Company 24, where he served in various capacities including numerous years as Chief.  He was well known for working the carnivals along side his dad in the surrounding area.  Mr. Combs was also an avid hunter, fisherman and a well known painter in the area.

He leaves behind a special companion, Betty Jo Fazenbaker of Piedmont, his extended family, Martha Shingler of Westernport, George Shingler and wife Nancy of Westernport, MD, John Shingler and wife Gail of Westernport, MD, Harold Shingler of Westernport, MD, and Jerry Lynn Critchley and husband Bryan of Beckley and all of their children.

Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, MD, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM.  A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Diane May officiating.

Interment will be in Philos Cemetery, Westernport, MD, with full military honors accorded at graveside.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to Tri-Towns Fire Company #1, Piedmont, WV 26750.
