Russell Thompson Broadwater, 66, of Barton, Maryland went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, September 6, 2012. He was born January 6, 1946 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Gorman Troxell Broadwater and Maggie Cornelia (Bradshaw) Broadwater.
Along with his parents he is also preceded in death by sisters, Viola Broadwater, Bernice Guinn, and Edna Wilt, and brothers, Homer Broadwater and Fred Broadwater. He is survived by one sister, Helen Thomas of Glen Burnie, Maryland. Also surviving are several cousins, nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, which was celebrated on July 8, 2012, Judy Elaine (Taylor) Broadwater; two sons, Joseph Daniel Broadwater and wife Jacqie, and John Andrew Broadwater; and his "little buddy", grandson, Jacob Isaiah Broadwater "Pappy's Boy", all of Barton, Maryland.
Russell graduated from Edmondson High School, Baltimore in 1964. He continued his education at the RETS Schools in Baltimore, receiving a certificate in Industrial Electronics and Communication Engineering. Russ received a diploma in air conditioning, heating and refrigeration from ICS Schools, Scranton, PA. Russell served his country in the United States Army, USA/Europe as an Avionics Technician from December 13, 1965 to December 12, 1968. While serving his country, Russ was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Sharpshooter Badge M-14 and Good Conduct Medal (1st award).
Russell retired from CSX Transportation in November 2009, after 32 years of service as a railroad locomotive electrician. Prior to the railroad, he worked at WesMar Communications, Cumberland Electric Company, and most recently for Scotty's Security as a courier.
He was a member of Bible Baptist Church, Barton. He volunteered with his sons' activities which included church, school, Cub Scouts and baseball. He would sacrifice and do whatever he could for his family, friends and those in need. He loved working with his hands in the yard, garden or making something with his woodworking tools. Russ never met a stranger. He could talk with anyone. Russ also shared his sense of humor and outgoing personality with his family and friends. He especially loved God, he prayed and read his Bible daily. He taught his sons and grandson about the Lord and tried to be the best example for them. He was faithful and loving to his wife of 40 years. He will truly be missed by all who knew him. May you be at peace now with no more worries and enjoy your Heavenly Home, with love from his sons, grandson, wife, daughter-in-law and other family and friends.
Friends and family will be received at the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton on Monday, September 10th from 2 to 4 PM and 7 to 9 PM
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 11th at 11:00 AM.
Interment will be in Maryland Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap, with military honors accorded by Post 13 Honor Guard.
