Ruby Broadwater, 80 of Westernport passed away on June 12, 2022 following a brief illness.
Born June 19, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Joseph L. and Mary K. (Blizzard) Symons. She was also preceded in death by her grandsons, Ricky White and Jason Johnson; a great granddaughter, Alyvia Albright; and a daughter-in-law, Debbie Broadwater.
Ruby was a 1959 graduate of Bruce High School and a member of the Bruce High Alumni. She retired as the dietary manager at Moran Manor in 2007. She was an active member of the Black Hawk Tribe 131 Petunia Council #10 and was awarded the 2014 Maryland State Pocahontas of the year. Ruby was a previous member of the Bloomington Ladies Auxiliary. Ruby was a volunteer at the local food distribution centers.
Ruby was a lifelong member of the Stoney Run Baptist Church, Westernport. She enjoyed gardening, caning what she grew, baking, and working on word searches. Ruby was actively involved in the planning of family functions. She always had a hand in any family events, always there to help and support her loved ones.
Ruby is survived by her children, Rick Broadwater and girlfriend Krista of Westernport, Kathy Bever and husband Danny of Swanton, Cindy Broadwater of Cumberland, Vicki White and husband Richy of Bloomington and Dekota Raines of Westernport. Ruby is survived by her grandchildren, Kailee Broadwater, Andrea Broadwater, Adam Broadwater, Kyah Broadwater, Shari Forney, Maranda Mowbray, Krissy Dowden and husband Jon, Latesha Durst and husband Tony, Steven W. Johnson and fiancé Amber, Holli Johnson, Jennifer Broadwater, Nick Broadwater, Tifenie Broadwater and fiancé Justin, Jesse Ridings, Matt White and wife Sarah, and Tyler White and fiancé Britani; twenty-six great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. She is also survived by her siblings, Ronald Symons and wife Sandy, Patricia Baer, Margaret Miller, Sandi Gank, Susan Watson and husband Fred, Joseph Symons, Jr., Deven Symons and wife Rhonda; special nieces, Destiney Critchley, Amy Bush; bonus granddaughter, Ashley Johnson; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Family and friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport on Wednesday, June 15th from 3 to 6 p.m. and Friday, June 17th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home following the Friday visitation at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Gary Morris officiating. There will be no visitation on Thursday.
Interment will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills.
