Richard Earl Bittinger, 82, of Bloomington, passed away Friday, December 26, 2014 at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland.
Born October 8, 1932 in Garrett County, he was the son of the late Edward Earl and Laura Helen (O’Brien) Bittinger. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Scotty and Richard Bittinger, and a brother, Glen Bittinger.
Mr. Bittinger was a United States Army Veteran, having served in the Korean War. He was retired from the Chessie Railway System, having been a conductor. He was a member of the Meadow Mountain Lutheran Church, and a member of Victory Post #155 American Legion, Westernport. Mr. Bittinger was also an avid hunter, fisherman and loved railroad collectibles.
He leaves behind his wife, Vonda (Pike) Bittinger, a daughter, Cindy Everline and husband David of McCoole, a son, Donnie Bittinger and wife Misty of Damascus, a brother, James Kenneth Bittinger of Deep Creek Lake, and a sister, Ethel Marie Armentrout and husband Lenny of Keyser, WV. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Krystle Wack and husband Donny of Bedford, PA, and Davey Everline and wife Faith of Keyser, WV.
At Mr. Bittinger’s request his body was cremated.
Friends and family will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Monday from 6 to 8 PM. A memorial service will immediately follow the visitation at 8:00 PM at the funeral home chapel on Monday, with Rev. Gary Rankin officiating.
