Phyllis M. Lewis, 80, of 210 Ross Street and most recently of Moran Manor Nursing Home, Westernport, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 8, 2014, at Western Maryland Health Systems, surrounded by her family.
Born on February 14, 1933, in Keyser, WV, she was the daughter of the late David and Bessie Ritchie. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Owen Lewis, Jr., on January 25, 1998. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Phyllis loved her Church unconditionally and was an active member of the Westernport Church of the Brethren where she served as a Deacon, sang in the choir, and also served on many committees and Commissions and the Board of Administration. She worked for many years at Roderick Furniture Store in Westernport and also volunteered at Moran Manor Nursing Home and Heartland Nursing Home in Keyser, WV. She was also a member of Victory Post 155 American Legion Auxiliary. Phyllis was always ready to help anybody with anything they needed. She will be sadly missed by her family and her many friends.
She loved to spend time camping with her children and grandchildren. She will always be remembered for her homemade bread and family meals.
Phyllis is survived by her sons; Steve Lewis and wife Ellen, David Lewis and wife Carrie, Tim Lewis and wife Nancy, and Keith Lewis and Donna. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Amy Cianelli, Wade Lewis, Shaun Lewis, Ashley Blocher, Shelby Nelson, Mallory Lewis, Amanda Lewis, Jaime Lewis, Trevor Lewis, Tyler Lewis, Taryn Wascher, Brooke Boyce, Nikki Boyce, and Patric Boyce; 16 great-grandchildren, Parker, Emma, Braelyne, Kinley, Owen, Ericka, Brandon, Matthew, Jacob, Ethan, Kaylee, Marissa, Kamryn, Atreyu, Ryder, and Jade; and one great-great grandchild, Adrianna.
Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Friday, January 10th, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 PM. Services will be conducted on Saturday, January 11th, at 11 a.m. at the Westernport Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Diane May and Rev. Bill Shimer officiating. Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
Interment will be at the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap.
The family would like to thank the staff at Moran Manor Nursing Home for the excellent care given to Phyllis while she was a resident there, and also thank you to the kind nurses at Western Maryland Health Systems who cared for her during her final days. You are all truly angels from above.
