Mildred Rebecca Stephen Martin, 96 of Lower Georges Creek Road, Barton, passed away Friday, January 3, 2014 at Frostburg Village Nursing Center.
Born August 30, 1917 in Barton, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Rebecca (Miller) Stephen. She was also preceded in death by her husband, J. Irvin Martin in 1979, three sisters, Cora Inskeep, Pearl S. Martin, Alleda E. Kimble, and three brothers, William L. Stephen, Cecil C. Stephen, and Olin M. Stephen.
“Mid” was retired from Allegany Ballistics Laboratory, having 30 years of service. She was a member of Barton United Methodist Church, where she had been a lay leader for the church, a teacher of the Friendly Helpers Bible Class, and had held various offices. She was a member of Martha Washington Chapter #10 Order of Eastern Star. She was Past Grand Matron of the Grand Chapter of Maryland Order of Eastern Star, a charter member of RE Temple #118 Daughters of the Nile, a member of Barton American Legion #189 Ladies Auxiliary, and a member of the Barton-Lonaconing Senior Citizens.
She leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends and family will be received at the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. The Order of Eastern Star will hold a memorial service on Sunday at 3:00 PM at the funeral home, and the Barton American Legion Ladies Auxiliary will hold a memorial service Sunday at 7:30 PM at the funeral home.
Funeral and interment services will be conducted at the Barton United Methodist Church on Monday at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Sandy Cowan and Rev. John Park officiating.
Interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills.
