Melvin Lewis Pritts, Sr., 94, of Westernport, passed away on July 13, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loved ones.
Born September 25, 1929 in Westernport, he was the son of the late Fredrick and Blanche (Warnick) Pritts.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Dorothy Lee (Davis) Pritts, whom he missed dearly; his children, Melvin Lewis “Buddy” Pritts, Jr. and Jacqueline “Jackie” Amtower; sisters, Emma Glendine Michaels, Mary Moore, Ora Thomas, Virginia Elliott; and brother, Harry Pritts.
Melvin served the country in the United States Army from 1949 to 1952. He was proud to work at the Westvaco paper mill for nearly 50 years, working in the cutter room and woodyard. In his younger years, he loved hunting, fishing, gardening, and working in the yard. In his later years, he enjoyed watching Gunsmoke and Bonanza.
He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Fitzgerald and husband Barry of Westernport. “Pap Pap” is also survived by his grandchildren, Christopher Amtower of Keyser, W.Va. and Emily Fitzgerald of Bethesda. He will be remembered by his sister, Norma Lee “Nee” Davisson, as well as many nieces and nephews, including special nephew, Jody Davisson.
Friends and family will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday for the visitation. The funeral service will follow immediately at 1:00 p.m. with Deacon Harold Bradley officiating.
Interment will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills, where he will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife and his son, Buddy.
