Westernport

Westernport, MD

Maxine (Miller) Prado went to be with the Lord on April 1, 2012 at the age of 93.

She was the beloved wife of Joseph F. Prado for 42 years, loving mother of John (Camille) Prado and Joe (Chris) Prado, and cherished Meemaw to Shelly (Ben) Harris, Beth Prado and Megan Prado.  Maxine was the daughter of the late Bernice (Reckley) Miller and John Miller, who in 1917 broke his back in a mining accident in a coal mine along Georges Creek.  Throughout her life she lovingly and faithfully cared for her father until he died in 1948.

She was an outstanding athlete at Bruce High School in basketball and softball, in which sport she earned the nickname “Slugger Miller.” She worked as the secretary at the Westernport Elementary School for 15 years under principals Nellie Dowling and Hazel Inskeep.  She was an active member of First Assembly of God, Westernport, and a frequent participant in activities at the Senior Citizen Center.  She will be remembered for her fun-loving, generous and hospitable nature.
Friends may call at the Boal Funeral Home, 111 Church Street, Westernport, Thursday from 12:00 PM until the time of service at 2:00 PM.

Interment will be in Philos Cemetery, Westernport.

The family expresses deep appreciation to the care givers at the Country House the Lions Center, Cumberland, for their attentive and professional care of Maxine over the past year.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 6931 Arlington Road, 2nd floor, Bethesda, Maryland 20814.
