Mary Elizabeth Snyder, 88, formerly of Washington St, Barton, and most recently of Egle Nursing and Rehab Center, Lonaconing, passed away Monday, July 23, 2012 at the nursing center.

Born June 20, 1924 in Barton, she was the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth “Lizzy” (Brown) Schramm.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Hamill Snyder, a daughter, Linda Lyons, one sister, Anna Keen, and four brothers, Roy, Billy, Clarence and Harold Schramm.

Mary was a 1942 graduate of Barton High School.  She was formerly employed at the Celanese Fibers Corp, having 43 years of service.  She was a member of Barton Presbyterian Church, and a member of Barton Hose Company Ladies Auxiliary.

She leaves behind one son, William “Butch” Snyder and wife Rheba of Frostburg, two daughters, Brenda Duckworth and husband Randy of Barton, Sally Cheshire and husband Dick of Westernport, two brothers, Joe Schramm of Rawlings, Kenny Schramm of Barton, two sisters, June Kiddy of Egle Nursing Center, Lonaconing, and Emma Howell of Ohio.  She is also survived by ten grandchildren, Ronnie Raines, Todd Snyder, Chris Snyder, Missy Kurkowski, Lesley Lyons, Carrie McCutcheon, Ryan Duckworth, Molly Cheshire, Logan Cheshire, and Linda Cheshire, and five great grandchildren.

Friends and family will be received at the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM.  A funeral service will be conducted at the Barton Presbyterian Church on Thursday at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Ernest Poland officiating.

Interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the Egle Nursing and Rehab Center Activities Fund or the Barton Presbyterian Church.

The family would like to extend a thank you to the Egle Nursing and Rehab Center staff for the compassionate care given to Mary during her stay there, with special thanks to her “walking angel”.
