Marguerite Elizabeth “Beth” (Determan) Gattens, 63, of Hershey, formerly of Westernport, MD, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, September 16, 2018.
Born August 12, 1955 in Keyser, WV, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Edward and Myra Luvena (Bever) Determan. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Susan J. (Determan) Matlick.
“Beth” was a 1973 graduate of Bruce High School, Westernport, MD, and completed the Secretarial Science Program at Allegany Community College. She devoted her life to her children in her early years and then worked at the Hershey Medical Center in later life. Strong in faith, she was an active member at her parish at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Hershey.
She was an active part of her children’s lives, remembered for her laughter, love of her baking and crafts, and her faith in God. She is survived by Erin Hubbard and husband David of Staunton, VA, Dave Gattens and wife Erin of Elizabethtown, PA, and Brooke Zepp and husband Cory of Willow Grove, PA, who rejoice in the life that she lived. She loved her six grandchildren, Ryleigh, Sawyer, Leighton, Fynna, Zachary and Holly, and was cherished by them dearly. Family meant everything to her, and she celebrated life often with her sisters and brother, Marie Whiteman and husband Ed of Woodbridge, VA, Jayne Barnes and husband David of Bel Air, MD, Joe Determan Jr. and wife Martha of East Stroudsburg, PA, Cindy Nelson and husband Bill of Westernport, MD, and Jeannie Guy and husband Scott of Glen Allen, VA. Her ten nieces and nephews and eleven great nieces and great nephews will always remember her giving nature and caring smile.
There will be a visitation in the Hoover Funeral Home, 88 Lucy Ave, Hershey on Friday, September 21, 2018 from 1 to 2 PM; followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 359 W. Areba Ave, Hershey at 2:30 PM.
A graveside service will be conducted at St. Peters Cemetery, Westernport, MD, on Monday, September 24, 2018 at 11:00 AM, with Deacon Harold Bradley officiating.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the PA Breast Cancer Coalition or St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church.
