Leo F. Nolan, 91, of Island St., Lonaconing, passed away Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Egle Nursing and Rehab Center, Lonaconing, where he had been a resident.
Born May 16, 1921 in Lonaconing, he was the son of the late Patrick A. and Mary (Rowan) Nolan. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Helene D. (Riggleman) Nolan, three sisters, Colleen Rowan, Bernadette Smith, and Deloris Miller, and four brothers, Paul C. Nolan, Joseph Nolan, William Nolan and John Nolan.
Mr. Nolan was a United States Army Veteran, having served during World War II. He retired from the Upper Potomac River Commission, Westernport. He was a member of St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church, Lonaconing, where was also a member of the Holy Name Society, a member of Knights of Columbus, Piedmont Council, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Barton American Legion #189.
He leaves behind a son, Patrick Nolan and wife Nicole of Cumberland, a daughter, Cheryl Duncan and husband Dan of Lonaconing, a brother, Edward E. Nolan and wife Mae of LaVale, five grandchildren, Claire, Leo, and Leah Nolan, Helene Bernard and husband Larry, Daniel Duncan and wife Marci, and four great grandchildren, Landon and Waylon Duncan, Ava and Myla Bernard, and two step great grandchildren, Lawson and Ashlinn Bernard. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends and family will be received at the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton, on Wednesday, January 2nd from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Midland, on Thursday January 3rd at 11:00 AM, with Father Edward Hendricks as celebrant.
Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lonaconing.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the activities fund at Egle Nursing and Rehab Center, Lonaconing, or the American Cancer Society.
