Barton, MD
James Samuel Gattens, 90, formerly of Middle St, Barton, and most recently of Egle Nursing and Rehab Center, Lonaconing, passed away Monday, July 16, 2012 at the nursing center.
Born February 8, 1922 in Barton, he was the son of the late James Gattens and the late Catherine Irene (Mowbray) Gattens. He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter.
Jim was a United States Army Veteran, having served during World War II. He was retired from Celanese Fibers Corp., having been a supervisor. He was also a self employed pipe fitter, and was the owner-operator of the former J & M Restaurant in Barton. Jim was a member of Barton American Legion #189, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He leaves behind his wife of 63 ½ years, Mary (Gardine) Gattens of Egle Nursing Center, Lonaconing, and a sister, Shirley Donahue of San Francisco, CA.
At Jim’s request, his body was cremated.
A memorial service will be conducted at the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton, on Monday, July 23rd 2012 at 1:00 PM, with Rev. Carl Cowan officiating.
Inurnment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills
