Westernport, MD

As the sun broke through the morning clouds, Hilda Loretta (Murphy) Clark, 90, checked off the last item on her Bucket List:  in the presence of her two children, she peacefully slipped into the arms of Jesus and joined her beloved Arnold in eternal life on January 18, 2015.

Born January 15, 1925 in Westernport, Hilda was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Lovada (Wilt) Murphy.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three siblings: Russell Wilt, Thelma Murphy and Leonard Murphy.  After a 50 year marriage, she was also preceded in death by her husband Arnold G. Clark on August 13, 1994.  Hilda celebrated her 90th birthday with a small family gathering the weekend prior to her death.

A graduate of Bruce High School, 1942, Hilda was employed at West Virginia Pulp and Paper Company during World War II, later working at the Devon Club in Luke for a number of years.  She and her husband owned and operated A. G. Clark, Builders and Clark Lumber Company, from the early 1950s until 1986 when the business was sold.  They very much enjoyed their grandchildren and traveling, especially to the First Special Service Force Reunions.

Survivors include two children: daughter Harriet Ann (Clark) Moore and husband Carl, Westernport, and son Bill Clark and wife Angelique, Clear Brook, VA.  Grandchildren include Ron Moore (Colleen), Pittsburgh, PA; Nancy Shingler (George), Westernport; Angela McKenzie (Mike), Westernport; Derek Moore (Kristi), Columbia, SC; Jennifer Hickey (Dave), McCoole; Kerry Fazenbaker (Jason), Westernport; Heidi Moore, Westernport; and Ben Clark, Walterboro, SC and Amy (Clark) Smith, Plumas Lake, CA.  Great Grandchildren include Jared Moore; Tyler Moore (Amanda); Jeremiah Hans (Cristen Carder); Sarah Shingler; Jessica (Shreve) Knotts (Jeff); Paden, Alyssa and Breanna Moore; Kaitlin (Hickey) Pearce (Cody); Cody Hickey (Brett Stump); Nathan and Jacob Fazenbaker; and Aliyah Smith.  Aubrey Smith will join her sister in May 2015.  Great-Great Grandchildren include Owen Pearce, Jaxon Moore and Kadance and Khloe Knotts.  She is also survived by her sister; Freeda (Murphy) Likins, Chardon, OH.  Special nieces and nephews who survive include the children of her sister Freeda and their families (Garland, Susan, Lenora and Blair Likins) and her brother Leonard (Pat, Kathy and Wendy Murphy).  Hilda also leaves her special caregivers, Jane and Mike MacDonald.

Friends and family will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM.  A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home chapel on Wednesday at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Steve Grimes officiating.

Interment will be in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap, MD.

Expressions of sympathy may be directed to Trinity United Methodist Church, 34 Jones St, Piedmont, WV, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
