Helen Jean Metz

Helen Jean (Howell) Metz, 87, of Barton, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 27, 2024.

Born in Barton on July 11, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Roy Harrison Howell and Grace Helen (Michaels) Howell. She is also preceded in death by her sisters, Violet Conca and Dorothy Shaw.

Jean was a 1955 graduate of Valley High School. She was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Barton. She was a former employee of Sacred Heart Hospital, Celanese, and Grantsville Shirt Factory. She earned her beautician’s license after high school but did not pursue it as a career. She loved family events and hosted many family dinners. She was a loving wife, supportive mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who lived a full life and will be dearly missed.

Jean is survived by her husband Charles Metz; children, Karen Leatherman and husband, Michael, Joy Bendix and husband, Michael, and Kevin Metz and wife, Susie; grandchildren, Michael Leatherman and wife, Valerie, Scott Bendix, Mandy Bendix Harrison and husband, Tyler, Danny Metz and wife, Erin, Kristen Metz Thompson and husband, Shane, and Katie Metz; and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Mary Ethel Griffith, and Ellen Metz; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. 

The Metz family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Egle Nursing and Rehab second floor staff.

Friends and family will be received at the First Presbyterian Church of Barton on, Wednesday, September 4th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Tom Morgan officiating.

Interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills.
