Harry Erwin "Jack" Mitter

Westernport, Maryland

Harry Erwin Mitter, known as Jack to his family and friends, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2024 at Cortland Acres Nursing Facility in Thomas, WV.

Jack was born at home on January 11, 1932 in Bloomington, MD. He served in the United States Army as a medic for two and a half years during the Korean War. Jack also worked at Westvaco for over 41 years. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking in his younger years. But most of all, he loved his time spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

Jack is preceded in death by his wife of almost 66 years, Orva; his parents, Walt and Mary Mitter; siblings, Charles Mitter, Dolly Dean, Robert Mitter, Grace Bittinger, William Mitter and Dessie Welsh; and son-in-law, Mark Hickman.  

Jack is survived by his daughter, Karen Hickman of Oakland; his three granddaughters, Megan Kitzmiller of Inwood, WV, Jenny Fyfe and husband Jimmy of Newport, Ireland, and Danielle Roth and husband Adam of Nashville, TN. He is also survived by five great grandchildren, Emma and Avery Kitzmiller, Colin and Lilly Fyfe, and Rosalie Roth. 

Jack will be cremated and a private graveside service will take place at a later date.
