Glenn Strickler

Westernport, MD

Glenn William “Teeny” Strickler 91 of Franklin, WV and formerly of Westernport MD, went to be with his Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, peacefully on September 10, 2013.

Born on April 25, 1922 in Westernport, he was the youngest son of the late Joseph Edward and Della Mae (Reeves) Strickler.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Virginia “Ginny” (Butler) Strickler, 5 years ago to the day, on September 10, 2008. He was the last remaining member of his immediate family having been also preceded in death by 3 sisters; Evangaline, who died in infancy, Lelia and Mildred, 2 brothers; Joseph “Jody” and Victor Strickler and a beloved son in law Dana Joseph “Joe” Dohm.

He is survived by his loving daughters Vicki Lynn Dohm, Teena Dale Bowers and husband David of Franklin WV., 2 grandchildren Dana Lynn Dohm of Burke VA and Matthew David Bowers of Franklin WV.

Teeny was a self-employed Barber for 46 years. Having graduated from the Tampa Barber College in Florida in 1958, he returned to Westernport in June of 1959 where he barbered at Fred Warnick’s Barber Shop for 7 years. He opened his own shop, Teeny’s Barber Shop at 85 Main St. in Westernport in August of 1966 and remained in business there until his health forced retirement in August of 2004. Teeny was heard to say, “There’s never a day that I don’t want to go to work!”. He absolutely loved being a Barber in Westernport, appreciated all his customers and friends there and missed it terribly when he had to retire.

He was an avid hunter of deer, squirrel, ground hogs and loved his horses, guns and motorcycles. He always was happiest when sharing his vast knowledge and passion for them with is “3 Girls”, Ginny, Vicki and Teena. He spent countless hours hand loading hundreds of shell for Sunday Trap Shoots they all enjoyed together. He was also a very talented wood worker having built Gun Cabinets and other treasured items for his family.

Teeny was a member of the Potomac Rod and Gun Club, Lonaconing Trap Club and Life member of the Piedmont Pentecostal Holiness Church in Piedmont WV.

There will be no viewing or visitation. At his request his body will be cremated and his ashes placed upon his parents graves in Philos Cemetery in Westernport MD. Rev. O’Haver will perform a private graveside service at a later date.
