Mr. Francis “Wayne” Clark, 85, of National, Maryland passed away Monday, February 27, 2012 at the University of Maryland Hospital Center in Baltimore, Maryland.
Born September 1, 1926 in Barton, MD, he was the son of the late Harry Alvin and Alice J. Kyles Clark. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years Leona L. Leatherman Clark, and his son Dennis W. Clark. Also preceding Wayne in death were his sister Reverend Naomi Ross and husband Stuart of Pennsylvania, his brother Harry and wife Lois Clark of Barton, MD and his nieces Lorraine, Melinda and Gina Habersack.
A 1944 graduate of Barton High School, Wayne served as a Gunner’s Mate Third Class in the US Navy during World War II from 1944-1946 aboard the USS Pasadena and the USS Millicoma. He retired after 39 years with the State Highway Administration as Area Engineer for Construction, District 6. Wayne was a chapter member of the Maryland Classified Employees Association (MCEA), Chapter 81. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting with his family and friends.
He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Vicky Clark of Walkersville, Maryland; grandson, Erik W. Clark of Frederick Maryland; granddaughter, Tina and husband Jeffrey along with two great-grandsons, Garrett W. and Lucas A. Abrecht of Walkersville, Maryland; niece Mary Jane Dawson and husband Mike of New Creek, West Virginia; brother-in-law William Leatherman and wife Eve of Austin, Texas; and nephew Thomas Leatherman and wife Karla of Austin, Texas.
Longtime family friends include The Wiley family of Garrett County, Maryland; Homer Hoover of Cresaptown, Maryland; Gene and Jeanne Hager of Garrett County, Maryland; and Dan Danner of Frederick, Maryland.
Family and friends will be received at Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton, on Thursday, March 1st 2012 from 4 to 8 PM. A funeral service will be conducted at the Boal Chapel on Friday, March 2nd 2012 at 1:00 PM, with Rev. John Park officiating.
Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice in Wayne’s memory.
