Donna Lee Mayhew

July 31, 1940 — July 11, 2024

Westernport, Maryland

Donna Lee Mayhew, 83, of Westernport passed away peacefully on the morning of July 11th, 2024.

Born July 31, 1940, in Westernport, she was the daughter of the late Alonzo W. Trenum and Madeline D. Trenum (Yutzy). She was predeceased by her loving husband, Harold “Gene” Mayhew; brothers Jimmy, Robert, and Gerald Trenum; and sister Gloria Bosley.

Growing up in Franklin, Donna spent nearly the entirety of her life in the Westernport area. She attended Bruce High School and was a founding member of the Potomac Fire Company #2 Ladies Auxiliary, where she served as treasurer for many years. During this period, Donna received a distinguished award for heroics when she rescued an infant trapped within a burning home. Donna and her husband also owned and managed various rental properties across the tri-towns area for many years.

Most notably, Donna owned and operated a well renowned ceramics business in Westernport for over 30 years. Her love for creating beautiful ceramics from start to finish was only outmatched by her work ethic in doing so. Throughout her business years, Donna spread her love and the beauty of her artwork to others in teaching numerous classes on painting and the ceramic firing process. She frequently donated ceramics for helping causes throughout the community.

Donna was an avid Baltimore Orioles fan, watching them play at any chance possible. She also never missed an opportunity to spend time with her grandsons and great-grandson Briggs, “the Rascal” as she nicknamed him.

Donna is survived by her daughter Terry Berg and husband Mike, of Burlington, WV; grandson Chris Berg, his wife Lexi, and great-grandson Briggs Berg, of Burlington, WV; grandson Justin Berg, of Keyser, WV; and nieces Peggy Spataro and Donna Martin, of Frostburg, MD and Hartmansville, WV respectively, amongst numerous other nieces and nephews.

Friends and family will be received at the Boal Funeral Home in Westernport on Friday, July 19, from 4:00-6:00 pm for a celebration of life.

Per Donna’s request, in lieu of any flowers or monetary gifts, donations should be made to the St. Jude Children’s cancer research fund.
