Donald William Smith Sr., 63, of Swanton Road, Swanton, passed away Friday, June 15, 2012 at Garrett Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born January 2, 1949 in Kingwood, WV, he was the son of the late Joseph Ross Smith and the late Gladys Virginia Snyder and Lyverl “Bud” Snyder. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Peyton William Smith and a brother, Richard Allen Smith.
Donald formerly worked as a coal miner.
He leaves behind his wife, Nancy (Rexrode) Smith, two sons, Donald Smith Jr. and wife Maranda of New Castle, DE, Noel Smith and Jennifer of Swanton, three daughters, Donna Curtin and husband Richard of East Bridgewater, MA, Sungvien Uber and husband Allen of Swanton, and Monica Savage and husband Jason of Oakland. He is also survived by a brother, Roger Smith of Bruceton Mills, WV, six sisters, Nancy Paugh, June Baker, Cindy DeWitt, Sharon Harvey, Barbara Sweitzer, all of Oakland and Mary Sweitzer of Swanton, thirteen grandchildren, Wisteria, Paranda, Ty, Kylo, Owynn, and Kasera Uber, Michael and Erin Curtin, Alayna and Jenna Savage, Alysia Smith, Bobbie Parker and Carley Smith, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends and family will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Monday from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 PM. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1:00 PM, with Monsignor Paul Byrnes officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to help defray funeral expenses may be directed to Monica Savage, 419 Sam Snead Circle, Oakland, MD 21550.
