Donald Gene Harvey, 81, of Bloomington went to be with the Lord on March 4, 2019 at his residence
Born December 27, 1937, he was the son of the late Edward Kenneth and Dora Louise (Sisler) Harvey. He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Teri; his sister, Lola Whittington; his mother-in-law, Evelyn Hanlin; and his son-in-law, Donald Wilson.
Don was a devout Christian. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church, Westernport where he served as a Deacon, a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school Superintendent, a leader of the Royal Rangers, a leader of the Praise Team and he also led many mission trips through the Church. Don helped to orchestrate the Church’s live streaming media. Don was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran. He was a 1955 graduate of Bruce High School. Don retireed from Westvaco, having worked in the filtration plant. He was a volunteer fireman, belonging to the Bloomington Fire Company for over 50 years. Don was also a dedicated First Responder, he loved to serve others. Don was an amazing husband, Dad and Pappy who will be greatly missed.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Joy Sue (Dawson) Harvey of Bloomington; his daughters, Debbie Moats and husband, Dave of Keyser, WV, Denise Wilson of Rawlings, and Dawn Saweikis and husband Anthony of Rawlings. He is also survived by his siblings, Kenny Harvey of Westernport and Karen Lewis and husband, Delno of Cabins, WV; his grandchildren, Joshua Andrews, Jeremiah Moats, Jonathan Moats and fiancée, Adrianna Fleming, Joseph Moats, Kayla McCullough and husband, T.J., A.J. Saweikis and wife, Karlee and Anna Saweikis. Don is survived by five great grandchildren plus one great granddaughter on the way, two step great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport on Thursday, March 7th from 6pm to 9pm and Friday, March 8th from 2 pm to 4 pm and 7 pm to 9 pm. On Friday at 7 pm the Bloomington Fire Company will conduct a memorial service honoring Don for his volunteer service to the fire company and the community.
A funeral service celebrating Don’s life will take place on Saturday, March 9th at 11:00 am at the First Assembly of God Church, Westernport with Pastor Greg Hammond and Pastor Glen Johnson Jr. officiating.
A private family interment will be in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap, Flintstone.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the First Assembly of God Church media fund.
