Darwin L. Flick, 90, of Westernport Road, Westernport, passed away Tuesday March 20, 2012 at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser, WV.
Born November 10, 1921 in Barnum, WV, he was the son of the late Amnon and Edna (Daniels) Flick. Two brothers, Clyde Robert Flick and Amnon Junior Flick, and one sister, Mildred Tichnell, also preceded him in death.
Mr. Flick was a United States Army Veteran, having served as an Army Engineer. His company was scheduled to go in on D-Day, but as it turned out they were on a hike and didn’t get back in time to go so they went on the second day at Omaha Beach. He served in Artemas Forrest and in Paris and Luxemburg, all over the European Front. He received his discharge in 1945 and went back to work at Westvaco Corp, where he worked for 45 years, eventually retiring in 1983 as a foreman in the cutter room. He was a member of Piedmont Presbyterian Church, Piedmont, WV.
He leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Virginia (Bryan) Flick, one daughter, Darlene Thomas and husband Bill of Keyser, WV, two sisters, Leona DeWitt of Swanton, and Hazel Ross of Moran Manor Nursing Home, Westernport. He is also survived by two grandsons, Mark Thomas of Elkins, WV, Dr. Scott Thomas and wife Paula of Keyser, WV, one great grandson, Lennon Thomas, a special friend who was like a daughter, Jenny Walker, and a sister-in-law, Barbara Murphy of Westernport, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Thursday from 7 to 9 PM. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home chapel on Friday at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Richard Slider officiating.
Interment will be in Philos Cemetery, Westernport.
