Craig E. Landis, 57, of Spring, Texas, formerly of McCoole, died August 24, 2012 at Health South Hospital, The Woodlands, TX. He fought a courageous battle after having suffered a stroke and then being diagnosed with kidney cancer.

Born August 19, 1955 in Keyser, WV to Erma L. (Kelly) Landis of McCoole and the late Calvin “Nick” Landis who died on February 11, 2011.

He was a graduate of Bruce High School with the class of 1973 and Frostburg State University in 1981. Craig enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1974 and served until 1978.

He was formerly employed by Compaq Computer and Harris County in Houston, TX. Craig was a member of the Northwoods Presbyterian Church in Houston and a former member of the Piedmont Presbyterian Church.

He especially enjoyed playing the guitar, playing football and watching his favorite team, the Steelers.

In addition to his mother, Erma, he is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Landis, Knoxville, Tenn.; a brother, Ronald K. Sharpless and wife Bonnie, New Creek, WV; nephews Donald Sharpless and wife Jennifer, Arnold, MD, Jeffrey Sharpless and wife Kelley, Romney, WV, Matthew Sharpless, Bowie, MD; and a very special friend Karen Kenter, Spring, TX. He is also survived by great-nieces, Reilly Sharpless, Madison Sharpless, Caleigh Sharpless, Sarah Sharpless and LaShawna Priest; great nephews, Kyle Sharpless and Jeffrey Sharpless Jr.; his aunt Allene Sowers and husband Frank; and his uncle Ernie Kelly and wife Carol Lee.

Friends will be received at Boal Funeral Home, Westernport on Saturday, September 1, 2012 from 2 to 4 PM.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted in the funeral home chapel at 4 PM with the Rev. Marcia Jaureguizar officiating.

A private inurnment will be in Philos Cemetery, Westernport at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Craig’s memory to the Kidney Cancer Association, P.O. Box 3516, Oak Brook, IL 60522.
