Clyde Miller

October 29, 1948 — September 19, 2024

Westernport, Maryland

Clyde Miller, 75 years young, lifelong resident of Westernport, born October 29, 1948, passed peacefully at home with his daughter on September 19, 2024, after courageously battling numerous health issues and frequent hospital stays this year subsequent to multiple strokes in January.

He is preceded in death by his parents Leslie and Louise (Biddle) Miller of Wood Street Ext.; seven brothers, Alvin Miller, Marvin Miller, Russell (Panama) Miller, Forace (Junior) Miller, Richard (Dick) Miller, Kenneth Miller, all of Westernport and Donald Miller, Piedmont, WV; and three sisters, Norma Wiegratz, Norfolk, VA, Betty (Rosebud) Hartman and Jean Taylor, both of Westernport.

He leaves behind his daughter Christina (Miller) Nolan of Lonaconing, MD (“Made in France” as he fondly bragged) and fiance` Scott Powell; son Justin Miller of VA Beach, VA and wife Laura Estes; three grandsons, Joshua Nolan, Jordan Nolan & Nathaniel Miller; his ex-wife of 30 years, “only woman he ever loved” and best friend Judy Miller; a devoted nephew, Jason Wilt; and many cousins, nieces & nephews who he always enjoyed visiting and catching up with.

He was a 1966 graduate of Bruce High School and honorably discharged from the US Army on May 1, 1974. He was HHC 3rd Battalion, 33rd Armor (also known as 3/33 AR) a unit within the 3rd Armored Division. He received the National Defense Service Medal (NDSM) which is a service award of the United States Armed Forces established by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1953 (it is awarded to every member of the U.S. Armed Forces who served during any one of four specified periods of armed conflict or national emergency from June 27, 1950 through December 31, 2022), and the Marksmanship M-14 badge. He retired from the Luke Papermill and was a proud and dedicated member of the Westernport American Legion Post 155, having also served as Commander.

Clyde was a true patriot, he loved his country, his family and especially his grandsons and was proud of each and every milestone which was obvious by the special glimmer in his hazel eyes when he spoke of them. He loved his late model cars and trucks, enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and shooting guns. He spent several years studying karate with his Grandson Jordan. He enjoyed bowling and shooting pool - especially if he was beating his daughter, one of his grandsons or basically anyone that took on the challenge. He certainly enjoyed dancing - especially with his favorite partners Rhonda K, Rhonda J and Belinda. He loved to plant a garden each year, no matter the size, and over the years raised cows, horses, ducks, chickens and rabbits.

His family would like to thank his many close friends that were so loyal throughout the years. Special thank you for the care and treatment provided by Potomac Valley Hospital, UPMC doctors, nurses and staff and especially the heroes of the UPMC CVU that treated him with the utmost respect and compassion. The UPMC Hospice staff (Christie, Elizabeth, Brittany and Melissa) who were extremely thorough, tender and caring in his last days. Deacon Harold Bradley, Pastor Thomas Morgan and Pastor Bruce for their visits and prayers, Georges Creek Ambulance & Vesper Medical Transport, Adam and Pharmacare of Cumberland, Theresa Boal and Boal Funeral Home, Tim and Mark Kady for the extreme respect and thoughtfulness as he left his home on Earth for eternal rest. Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery and Fort Cumberland American Legion Honor Guard.

A celebration of life will be held for family and friends on October 6, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Midland Firehall with Pastor Charlie Hinkle officiating and Ken Nolan providing acoustic music. A private service for the family, with Military Honors, will be held at Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Boal Funeral Home to offset his final expenses.
