Charles Franklin Wiles, 86, of Wood St, Westernport, passed away Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland.
Born at home in Amblersburg, WV on July 17, 1928, Charles Franklin Wiles was the son of George Washington Wiles and Mary Elizabeth (Parrack) Wiles. He is predeceased by one sister, Margaret Louise Wiles, and by his best lifelong buddy whom he met in the Navy, Robert Pratt of Spencer, IN.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Anna Mae (Bateman) Wiles of Westernport, his daughter Linda Wiles Webb of Hedgesvile, WV, three grandchildren Ryan Webb, Nicole Webb Spiers, Laura Webb Vogt, and seven great-grandchildren.
Charles served in the US Navy from 1948 till 1952 as a third class machinist. He worked for a time at Naylor's Hardware in 1952, for the Garrett County Roads Department for three years, and was then employed at Westvaco Paper Mill from 1955 until his retirement in 1995.
Mr. Wiles was a devoted and loving husband and father, and a faithful Christian. At First Assembly of God in Westernport, he served as church trustee for four years, secretary of the men's Sunday school class for 18 years, church bus driver, earned the nickname "Sister Charlotte" because of all the help he provided to the Women's Ministry program of the church, and along with his wife purchased church cleaning supplies for 25 years.
Friends and family will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. A funeral service will be conducted at First Assembly of God Church, Westernport, on Tuesday at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Greg Hammond and Rev. Donald Webb officiating.
Friends and family will also be received one hour prior to funeral service at First Assembly of God Church.
