Charles William Metz

Charles William Metz, 88, of Barton, passed away at home on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.

Born in Barton on November 1, 1935, he was the son of the late Charles and Cora Mae (Swick) Metz. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Helen Jean (Howell) Metz just over one month ago. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, George Metz, Glenn Metz and sister, Jenny Mae Trenum. Charles was a 1954 graduate of Barton High School. He retired from Westvaco Paper Mill and was a former employee of Celanese.

Charles is survived by his children; Karen Leatherman and husband, Michael, Joy Bendix and husband, Michael, and Kevin Metz and wife, Susie; grandchildren, Michael Leatherman and wife, Valerie, Scott Bendix, Mandy Bendix Harrison and husband, Tyler, Danny Metz and wife, Erin, Kristen Metz Thompson and husband, Shane, and Katie Metz; and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Ethel Griffith, and sister-in-law Ellen Metz;and numerous nieces and nephews. 

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Ivan Crowe and Andy Hart and his other neighbors that helped him over the last months.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Friday, Oct. 11, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Tom Morgan officiating at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills.
