Benjamin Ellsworth Smith, 81, of Fort Ashby Road, Keyser, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at his residence.
Born March 11, 1937 in Barton, MD, he was the son of the late Harry Ross Smith Sr. and May Lorraine (Michaels) Smith. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Lee (Shook) Smith, a sister, Sarah Smith and two brothers, Robert Dale Smith and Harry Ross Smith Jr.
Ben was a United States Army Veteran. He retired from Westvaco Corp, with 42 years of service, having been a supervisor in the wood yard. He was an active member of Second Baptist Church, Limestone. After retirement, Ben enjoyed all outside activities, running equipment and helping others.
He leaves behind his wife, Mary “Rocky” (Wright) Smith, a son Kenneth Smith and wife Allison of Keyser, a daughter, Tam Self and husband Archie of New Creek, two brothers, Harold Smith and wife Margaret of Barton, MD, and Ronnie Smith and wife Kathy of Topeka, KS. He is also survived by four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
At the family’s request, Ben was cremated and there will be no funeral services. A family graveside service will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions in Ben’s name may be directed to the Mineral County Humane Society. The family extends a special thanks to Ben’s sister-in-law, Rhonda Wright for the compassionate care given to him during his illness.
