Alice Rosalee Howard, 100, formerly of Knight ST, Bloomington, and most recently of Devine Personal Care Home, Salisbury, PA, passed away Monday February 6, 2012 at the Devine Home.
Born February 19, 1911 at Emoryville, WV, she was the daughter of the late Garland J. and Martha (O’Neil) Howard. She was also preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Richard Howard, Clarence Howard, Elbert Howard, Lelia Maybury, and Ruth Fletcher, and her nieces and nephews, Cyril VonBaumann, Jeannie Lynch and Bonnie Scheermesser.
Alice was a 1929 graduate of Frostburg State Teachers College, Frostburg. She taught school until the age of 65 largely in the Garrett County School System beginning in a one room school at Chestnut Grove, then in Oakland, Loch Lynn, and finished her career at Bloomington School. She was a member of the Bloomington United Methodist Church, where her grandfather was the first minister of the church.
She leaves behind her nieces and nephews, Jane Baumann of Waverly, OH, Gloria Shreve of Leesburg, NJ, Lois Clelland of Pomeroy, OH, Linda Crawford of Frostburg, Leo Howard of Sebring, FL, Jim Maybury of Sorrento, FL, Jim Howard of California, and Robert Howard of Bailey, NC.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Bloomington United Methodist Church on Saturday, February 11th 2012 at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Gary Rankin officiating.
Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the service from 10 AM to 11 AM.
Pallbearers will be Wes Crawford, Craig Scheermesser, Bruce Dellinger, Jeff Beard, Shane Bosley, and Terry Riley.
Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, is in charge of arrangements.
