Abner Daryl Tichnell, 74, of Virts Road, Swanton, passed away Friday, June 29, 2012 at his residence.
Born October 11, 1937 at Chestnut Grove, he was the son of the late Abner Kelly and Iva (Paugh) Tichnell. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Austin and Harold Tichnell.
Daryl was a 1956 graduate of Bruce High School. He served in the Army National Guard, Battery C 201st Artillery. He retired from Westvaco Corp. with 39 years of service, having worked in maintenance. Daryl was a member of Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church, where he served as a Trustee of the church, a member of Victory Post #155 American Legion, and a member of Folley Run Sportsman Club. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and loved to help others, enjoyed time with family and friends, and working on the farm.
He leaves behind his wife of 49 years, Eloise (Harvey) Tichnell, a daughter, Debra Nicholas and husband Robert of New Bern, NC, three brothers, Gilbert Tichnell and wife Bernice of Keyser, WV, Donnie Tichnell of Chestnut Grove, Robert Tichnell and wife Sue of Backbone Mountain, two sisters, Hilda Claycomb of Chestnut Grove, and Doris Christenopher and husband Jim of Danville. He is also survived by two grandsons, Mark Nicholas and wife Rebecca of DePere, WI, Matthew Nicholas and wife Ashley of Colonial Beach, VA, four great grandchildren, Joshua and Lydia Nicholas of DePere, WI, Andrew and Eli Nicholas of Colonial Beach, VA, and several very special nieces and nephews.
Friends and family will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. A funeral service will be conducted at Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church on Tuesday at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Gary Rankin officiating.
Interment will be at Tichnell Cemetery, Chestnut Grove.
